Andrew Kahn
Andrew Kahn is currently working toward his Masters at the Wurzweiler School of Social Work at Yeshiva University's. He is certified by the Yoga Alliance as an ERYT (Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher) and is an LMT (Licensed Massage Therapist.) He has been practicing yoga since 1981 and teaching since 1986. Mr. Kahn has extensive training in Yoga from the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in Massachusetts, where he studied and taught as a resident for four years. He was the Holistic Health Director of the DeSisto School in Massachusetts and an athletic supervisor at the JCC on the Palisades in Tenafly, NJ. Andrew graduated Magna Cum Laude from Ramapo College's Honors Program with a BA in Psychology and studied clinical psychology in Fordham University's PhD program before shifting his attention to yoga and holistic healing. Andrew is a founding member of the Gainesville Yoga Teachers Association. He has taught Holistic Health Education for the IRS and at the University of Florida. As a yoga practitioner and spiritual seeker, Andrew cultivates a peaceful presence. He seeks to increase health, vitality, creativity, and joy within himself and to facilitate the same process in others. Peace of mind is an experience of stillness and connection even within the midst of activity. As more people achieve an inner peace, this radiates outwards into the family, community, and throughout the world.
I'm presently doing my local work largely with the Gural JCC of Cedarhurst where we have many worthwhile programs open to the entire community regardless of race or religion. This includes a food pantry, financial assistance, clinical social work, early childhood, older adult and senior, Jewish single parent families, victims of domestic violence, bereavement, holocaust survivor group, traumatic brain injury group, caregivers support group, special needs, a Russian department, a coalition to prevent drug and alcohol misuse, and much more.
There are two primary initiatives I'm tasked with. The first is Isolation to Connection, which is all about helping any isolated senior in the greater 5 Towns area who has unmet needs. I have in-house and out-of-house resources and am ready to help seniors make a connection.
The second program is called the CommUNITY Coalition. The aims include promoting more communication, cooperation, sensitivity, and goodwill among our neighbors with different racial/religious backgrounds. Toward this end, we intend to host a number of collaborative efforts (maybe a coat/food drive...) One might call it the "kindness coalition".
